LoS C Line of sight. This is the vision restriction placed on projectile attacks and spells: if
a large object is between you and your target, your projectile attacks won’t hit, and you’ll get a message about your view being obstructed.
Mob C Short for “mobile,” an old term originally used in text-based online games to refer to
non-player characters. In gamer jargon these days, it mainly refers to the computer-controlled “enemies” in the PvE portion of a game.
NPC C Non-player character. Technically, this refers to any creature other than a player’s
character, and all of them (even henchmen and pets) are computer-controlled to some extent. Usually, when this guide refers to NPCs, it means friendly or allied non-player characters.
Nuke, nuking C This term refers to skills that deal damage directly, especially those that hit
multiple targets or an area.
PBAoE C Point-blank area of effect. Refers to a spell or skill that strikes an area centered
around the character that used it. The monk’s Heal Area is an example.
PvE C Player versus environment. Refers to the role-playing portion of the game, with all
of its adventuring and fighting against computer-controlled foes.
PvP C Player versus player. Refers to competitive battles between players, as in the
various arenas.
Spec C Short for “specialization.” Refers to the way a character’s attribute points have
been distributed.
Spike C Refers to doing a very large amount of damage or healing within a short period of
time, usually to a single target. For example, many elementalists and rangers specialize in “spike damage,” dealing large amounts of damage to one target suddenly and quickly.
ToPK C Tomb of the Primeval Kings. Refers to the original site of the ongoing global PvP
tournament. Heroes’ Ascent now fills that function.
